House Tour, Belated Spring Edition

Hey guys, happy Friday! After posting about our missing dining room floor the other day, I realized that there have been some changes around here that we haven’t updated you guys on yet! The changes just happened so gradually that we never thought much about them, but after realizing that our last house tour was about two months ago when the place was still a huge mess… I think it’s about time we give y’all an update.

When you enter in through the double doors things are looking a little better but there’s not much progress here yet. We just added a thin target console table, candle holder, and Z Gallerie vases from the apartment. Still want to hang some art on that brick! Need masonry screws…

Our office is looking pretty different though! We recently popped a couple of our dining room chairs in there to see how we liked them. We love our old office chairs but they just looked too… office-y. So we may try Craigslisting them. We also moved the two tall Besta cabinets that used to live in our living room in there.

Big difference from this set up! Granted, the picture below was shortly after moving in so it was extra crazy, but for a couple months it was basically the same but with less clutter.

The kitchen looks pretty much the same, not too much has changed here.

House Tour, Belated Spring Edition- evanandkatelyn.com

The dining room has changed though! Like we showed the other day, we took out lots of the built in shelves, added some art and vases, changed the table orientation, and generally made things prettier.

House Tour, Belated Spring Edition- evanandkatelyn.com

Here’s how it looked before! The table used to be so oddly positioned. And more shelves meant more eventual clutter, so we thought removing some would be good. Still not sure what’s gonna end up  on them, but for now it’s art.

The living room is making progress now that we have our new couch! (Note, the two tall Besta cabinets that are in the office now are in these living room pictures, which were taken just a little bit before we moved them. So just picture it without the tall units.)

We have big plans for this room! Big, big plans *twiddles fingers menacingly.* It’s already come a long way from how it used to look though. Looking much more modern and much less man-cave-ish (no offense love!).

The guest bedroom, which used to be completely empty, now looks like this! (Sorry, hard to get everything in one picture).

Also, the junk room future workout room is looking like this!!!

Which doesn’t seem like much… until you see the before. Eek!

So all in all most of the house is looking nicer. Except… our master bedroom. It absorbed some of the stuff from the junk room and has generally been neglected. It’s actually looking worse than it did in our last house tour. Womp womp.

Well there you have it! Finally, an updated house tour!

Move In Progress

After yesterday’s post I realized that we’ve been putting so much time toward fixing bigger issues (like pipes, clamps, and potties) that we never got a chance to post about our move-in progress. So here’s a quick little update on how things are looking around here these days. Not that we’ve had the time to make any huge strides… but we are no longer sleeping in the living room, so at least we’re heading in the right direction!

During the first week or two, the kitchen was still pretty chaotic. This is because it took a lot of time to clean this thing from top to bottom, I’m talking every nook and cranny. Kitchens have a lot of crannies!

But after much cabinet-liner-ing, meticulous stuff-organizing, and fridge de-gross-ifying, I was able to get it looking like this! And now it’s fully functional! Being able to make coffee, use the garbage disposal, and have ice cubes (things we couldn’t do in here for weeks) makes a place feel much more like home.

Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com

As you can see through the doorway in the photo above, we also have our dining table set up. Sorry about funky place mat placement… somehow our seats always end up getting closer and closer to each other (awwww).

Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com

After we got our bed and other miscellaneous stuff out of the living room, it felt a lot bigger. We even started to think that our 8×10 white rug may be a bit small for this space…

Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com

…So we bought a new rug! It’s 10×12 so it’s HUGE, and it was only $199 which is craaaaazy cheap. If you think Garden Ridge is only for lawn chairs and lifesize metalic knights, think again. They also have amazingly cheap rugs.

We got our TV set up enough to watch Walking Dead on Netflix. So basically the living room is functional!

Our bedroom was in pretty good shape. I say “was” because it’s actually looking messier now than when I took this picture a couple weeks ago. Taking down the previous owners ugly gold curtains and putting up our own made a HUGE difference.

Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com

Yeah, THOSE gold curtains. Ewwwwww. It looks like we painted the walls but we didn’t, the old gold curtains just tinted the color of the whole room.

Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com

The other bedrooms are far from being done. But we at least moved everything out of the guest room and into the other extra bedroom so that we can have people stay over! (Well, only people that don’t mind an air mattress. And don’t need side tables. Well basically people that are ok with having an empty square to stay in, sorry guys!)

Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com

Oh but yeah, future guests, you don’t really have any room in the closet right now to hang stuff. It’s currently housing shoes and overflow clothes…

Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com

The other bedroom is currently home to all the stuff we aren’t dealing with yet. Still not sure how we fit all this into our one bedroom apartment

Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com

Our office is still cluttered and kinda cramped feeling. I spend most of my day right here amidst the technology piles.

Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com

Mochi doesn’t seem to mind though. She’s comfy on her bed of wires and lightbulbs.

Move In Progress- evanandkatelyn.com

Well there you have it! A quick little post about our move-in progress. Can’t wait til we have time to get more organized and make things pretty. But we’ve got more pressing projects to check off the list first… like putting a floor in our laundry room, doing some yard work before we have a jungle out there, and re-grouting/re-caulking our master bathroom. But hey, progress is progress!

Befloor, During, & After

I’m sorry for the pun. It’s bad! But I just wanted to do a quick post with some before/during/after photos of our floors so you can see the progress all in one quick glance. Here you go!

Befloor, During, & After- evanandkatelyn.com

Well there you have it! Goodbye lumpy carpet and cracked white tile, hello modern wood floors! I’d say it’s a huge improvement. But I may be biased (and several thousand poorer) so I had better think so :P

Our Finally Finished Floors!

After nearly a week of demo, prepping, and installation, our floors are finally done!! Well, almost done. We are still down to bare subfloor in the laundry room (we have plans to lay tile soon) and we are missing a couple transitions that weren’t delivered in time. And it took an extra week to finish the hallway because we cleaned out the entire Houston and Dallas supply of our flooring and we had to wait on delivery of the five more boxes we needed. But still… pretty much done!

Man it was a crazy process. I won’t get into all the details here, but you can read about the flooring progress here and here. And now, an onslaught of pictures!!

Here’s the breakfast nook/soon-to-be office. This is where the floor magic began! I was actually literally hopping up and down with my camera when this started.

Our Finally Finished Floors!- evanandkatelyn.com Our Finally Finished Floors!- evanandkatelyn.com Our Finally Finished Floors!- evanandkatelyn.com From the breakfast nook/office area, they moved through into the kitchen. Lots of corners and crannies to get around in there.

Then the dining room got some attention. SO glad that we don’t have a carpeted dining room anymore, bleh.

Our Finally Finished Floors!- evanandkatelyn.com Our Finally Finished Floors!- evanandkatelyn.com Our Finally Finished Floors!- evanandkatelyn.com

The living room was the last and biggest room to get floors (well I guess the hallway was last but that doesn’t really count as a room.) Here’s a view of the living room area from across the dining room.

Here’s another view of the living room as if you were standing near the fireplace looking toward the back windows.

And here’s a view of the living room facing the fireplace. Surprisingly, we ended up kinda liking how the brick looks with the floors. Originally we were going to paint the brick white but now we may leave it. Going to live with it for a while and see what we think.

Lastly here’s the entry way, didn’t nab any good progress pics of it, they completed it super fast! Love how the wood floors flow seamlessly under the fireplace since they undercut it.

That hallway you’re looking into remained unfinished while we waited for the rest of our flooring to arrive (we cleaned out the Houston and the Dallas supply and were 5 boxes short). Look how desolate it was in there! But a few days later our extra floors came in and they were able to finish our hallway! Hallway-luyah! (Sorry, my pun skills are not the best.)

Pay no mind to the piles of stuff in the bedrooms. Look at the floors!! WE HAVE FLOORS!!!! This is amazing!

Apartment Tour

Before we say goodbye to our apartment and hello to our new house, I thought it’d be nice to make a post about how the place we currently call home has progressed over the past year.

Evan lived at this apartment complex a couple years before we were dating, and it was definitely a guy’s place. To his credit, it was by far the cleanest guy’s place I’ve ever stepped foot in and he had some pretty badass stuff:  a collection of nerf guns, a legit light saber, and a table-top arcade controller thingy (technical term) that took over the entire coffee table. But give the guy some credit, at least he had a coffee table!

We never took proper pictures of the apartment itself back then, but you can get an idea from these shots. On a side note, the apartment pictured below is actually his old larger unit. Before we were dating, I suggested he moved into a smaller one to save money. Miss frugal. Little did I know that in a year I’d be trying to squeeze all my crap into this much smaller space. His newer unit looked pretty much the same as the one in these pics though before I moved in, so you can get an idea.

On another side note, our friends are awesome ^_^

See, definitely a guy’s place. But his lack of curtains was not enough to scare me off! I moved in in April of 2012, and all of a sudden it looked like a hurricane of clothes, coffee mugs, and throw pillows had hit the place. Just take a glimpse at the craziness below.

Yeah, it’s scary. After a few weeks we turned it into something a little more manageable, but we still had piles of art taking up about 1/3 of the living room. Evan paints and I do digital art, so we had way more stuff to put on the walls than this apartment could handle.

In the meantime Mochi was making herself at home amidst the crazy. Cats can be comfy anywhere.

After weeks of Goodwill trips, meticulous organizing, and becoming pros at assembling IKEA furniture, we were able to turn that craziness into this!

Well there you have it, a glimpse at the place we currently call home! Excited to see how the new house compares since we’ll have even more freedom to make it our own.
